red arrow If I'm not ready for the services now, why should I join now?

By joining now, you still benefit now even if you don't feel you "need it" now. You'll gain access to our extensive list of service providers at our reduced members-only rates, and you can participate in all of our Social and Cultural activities and events. You'll make new friends by participating, and if you're interested, you can volunteer to assist other members who do need more help. As a member, you can help us shape CoralGables@HOME to better serve you both now and in the future. Joining now will give you assurance for the future knowing you helped launch this important new program and that it will be there when you do need it. Another way to participate without joining as a full member is by being a Legacy Partner.

red arrow What is included in my annual fee?

red arrow Will CoralGables@HOME drive me to my doctor’s office?

Coral Gables at HOME official carCoralGables@HOME can provide transportation for up to 12 doctor’s appointments or any other local destination per year at no additional charge. Simply call our office 48 hours in advance to make transportation arrangements.



red arrow Is this program a duplication of services already available in Coral Gables?

CoralGables@HOME was designed to complement not duplicate the excellent services already provided by the City's Senior Services (and other agencies). While the City's services are more activities-based (and CoralGables@HOME does offer activities), we are concerned with helping you remain in your own home and offer the means and assistance to do those things you need help to accomplish. According to a January 2009 AARP article, 89% of people over 50 want to stay in their own homes and there is a growing movement to provide services to help them do just that. Recognized as a grass-roots movement by this 2008 Washington Post article, "Villages" began springing up across the country offering Baby Boomers the services they needed to remain at home, and Coral Gables is no exception, where approximately 25% of the population is over 60, and the City was voted one of the top 5 cities nationwide to retire in.

red arrow Will my personal information be kept confidential and secure?

Yes, information on your membership agreement will not be shared with outside parties. We do not sell our membership lists and no one will be given your home address, phone, or e-mail address (should you provide one) without your consent.

red arrow Can I sign my parents up to become members?

Yes . . . or a sibling, other relative, or friend. Gift memberships are a great way to give peace of mind to someone you care about and get peace of mind for yourself in return. If you can't be there for that person, you will both know we are there to help. We also offer a daily check-in call (if desired).

red arrow Can CoralGables@HOME help with hurricane preparation?

Yes, we have multiple, background-checked service providers that will meet with you in advance of a storm to provide a free estimate for shutter installation and take-down after a storm. In fact, these professionals can install a temporary track above and below windows and doors to allow for faster installation of metal, bolt-on shutters. These pre-storm preparations create an efficient installation process because the installer is familiar with your home and shutter storage before the rush of an approaching storm.

red arrow Can I sign my parents up to become members?

Yes . . . or a sibling, other relative, or friend. Gift memberships are a great way to give peace of mind to someone you care about and get peace of mind for yourself in return. If you can't be there for that person, you will both know we are there to help. We also offer a daily check-in call (if desired).

red arrow Will I be notified in case of emergency if anything happens with my parent(s)?

Of course, we will follow your in case of emergency instructions to the letter.

red arrow How does a company become an approved Service Provider/Vendor for CoralGables@HOME members?

If you are calling for your own company or on behalf of a company you want to refer to us, just call the office 305.443.4011, and ask for our Executive Director, Marli Lutz.

red arrow How do I join or form a Special Interest Group?

We are pleased to offer assistance with starting any group. Please call and let us know what you are interested in and we can tell you whether there is already a group starting up, or if others have expressed a similar interest, and put you in contact with each other.

red arrow Can I hold a membership event at my home?

Yes, please! We are pleased to make a presentation regarding CoralGables@HOME to any size group, small or large. If you wish to hold a social event, please call us to discuss the details! We are here to get our members together and want to spread the word about our great services and growing member base.

red arrow Can CoralGables@HOME help me with grocery shopping?

Yes, CoralGables@HOME has a van service to take multiple members to the grocery store. Upon return to your home, the groceries are carried into your kitchen for you. If you are recovering from an illness, CoralGables@HOME can bring groceries to you. Grocery services are included the in the CoralGables@HOME membership at no additional charge.

red arrow How is CoralGables@HOME funded?

CoralGables@HOME is a privately-funded program. The Coral Gables Community Foundation is launching this program with seed funding from the Kirk Foundation. Memberships and Legacy Partner sponsorships are also vital to the sustainability of this important program for our community.
